I’m a big fan of futuristic racers, love games like Wipeout, Grip and more recently Pacer so with that in mind I wanted to take a look at the new kid on the block, Gravity Chase fast paced action/combat racer.
If you’ve played a futuristic racer before then you’ll have a good idea of what to expect when it comes to gameplay, intentional or not I’m not sure but you can clearly see the inspiration of the game lies heavily in the games that trod the path before them.
I enjoyed the fast paced racing aspect to some extent, it was fun to start with but apart from the slight layout change of the track and world it all really felt the same, travelling at breakneck speed through a futuristic tunnel is certainly eye catching but take slightly wrong move and you put yourself in a frustrating barrel role (especially if you’re first, yes that happened to me).
From the off there is a good collection of vehicles to choose from, all of which you can customise slightly and tweak with upgrades which ia pretty cool as you mostly have to unlock the decent ones first so having a few to play around with was indeed good fun.
The game certainly comes into it’s own once you add friends to the mix for fast paced action that will either settle scores or make new ones.
All I all although I thought the game was good enough I kind of felt it had been done before so wasn’t really blown away by it which was a bit disappointing, the weapons are a good addition and good fun but not really much else.
Graphics and Sound
Graphics wise you can’t knock the game it looks great, bold and bright with lots going on and lots of detail although it doesn’t have next gen support it still looks pretty good all considered.
The soundtrack was pretty good, nice and upbeat just the sort of tracks you want to listen to whilst you burn up the race.
To summarise my thoughts of Gravity Chase, not a bad game just felt it’s pretty much been done before, worth picking up but maybe wait until the sales.
Verdict-Out of 5🌟
I give Gravity Chase an OK score of 2🌟 a decent title but doesn’t bring anything new to the genre.
