Gameplay

Another year has passed so that means this year’s edition of Monster Energy Supercross is released, I was lucky enough to get to review last year’s edition and it blew me away so I was looking forward to getting my hands on this year’s edition to see the improvements.

Monster Energy Supercross 5 is the official game of the Monster Energy Supercross series complete with the official 450SX, 250 East and 250 West roster of the 2021 season also now with two-stroke bikes, an extended career mode and the all important track editor with new rhythm section. This year the customisation options have been improved with the brand new helmet editor and sticker editor.

Players favourite the Track Editor is back once again but this year has been improved further, create the track of your dreams using all the
customization opportunity included in the Track Editor such as tuff blox, modules, leader pillar, start and
finish structure. Once you have created your masterpiece you can then share it with the community you can upload your track and share it
worldwide with players from all over the world. If you aren’t that creative minded you can also download the tracks created by other users. New for this year is the Rhythm Section Editor where players can create and share prefab track sections by mixing and matching pre-existing modules to
improve even further the Track Editor usability. Again new for this year you can now, for the first time in the franchise, share your UGC with players from any other platform!

Customisation options has always been quite vast in these titles but this year the options have been expanded further with different helmet and sticker options, also different outfit and character options such as tattoos, the options are literally never-ending with more than 100 official brands for cosmetic and performance customization, to be used on your rider and your bike.

Multiplayer has also been expanded with many different options for the gamer to choose from Local Split Screen, Online modes which include the standard Public race, Private race, Free-roaming and Director Mode. The online multiplayer also has two additional important features:
Drop-In Drop-Out = Players who leave an online match will
be replaced by bots. If you jump into an online match with an active bot, you’ll replace this one.
Cross-Gen Play = You can now play with players same platform, but different gen (old gen/current gen)

I’d compare Monster Energy Supercross 5 with the likes of Fifa, the bulk of the game is pretty much the same with the added cosmetic changes along with various tweaks to the gameplay, however the tweaks that have been made haveade the game even better than last year, it seems alot more fluid and easier for players to get to grips with the game.

Graphics and Sound

The graphics of the game are phenomenal, the game feels fluid and runs smooth. Realists will appreciate the level of detail that has gone into the game with all the fully licensed bikes and equipment along with the real world locations and riders, it really is the most authentic supercross game out there. The only thing I would pick up on is I would’ve liked to have seen more track degradation as you go through the laps but in all fairness I think that is just me being overly picky.

The soundtrack of the game is as punchy as the game itself with plenty to of rock music to get your juices pumping, the in game sound effects are great and sound exactly as they should do adding to the overall authentic feel to the game.

Summary

To summarise my thoughts on Monster Energy Supercross 5, an authentic biking experience that any supercross will love, even if you’re not a fan of the sport it’s well worth playing to get that adrenaline pumping. A great series made even better with this year’s updates.
